Today’s picture comes from tenaciousme on Flickr. Taking the traditional mince-based lasagna, this spinach and tomato filled dish looks absolutely gorgeous. The pasta sheets and soft and appear easy to cut, while the overall dish is topped off with the perfect amount of cheese. Not to mention it is garnished with lettuce and tomato, which only add to the mouthfuls you include them in. Mmmmm…. lasagna.Read More →

It’s not often that SA receives new versions of the chips-in-a-tube Pringles (unless you try to count the countless knockoffs). This time, it’s not a new flavour (sort of), but rather a new type of chip. Is this new tortilla chip tubular, or just something corny? To anyone getting excited over the prospect of corn chips, it must be stated that this offering is not gluten-free. The product uses wheat starch as part of the ingredients. The Pringles Tortilla chips are slightly smaller than the standard version and appear to be brittle (a large portion of mine were broken in the tube). They’re a pleasure to chomp andRead More →

Today’s picture comes from Matt Mets on Flickr. Inspired by Joe’s Easy Diner yesterday, we decided to make waffles today’s Pic of the Day. And, yes, the image is actually named “Motherf***ing Waffles”. The crispy-looking golden-brown waffle is topped off with some berries and cream. You can try fool yourself into thinking this is a healthy breakfast, but we know the truth. True to our tweet, we didn’t waffle on about this. The original Tweet: We should write an article about waffles and hopefully not waffle on about them… https://t.co/9CrJGsZjN7 — Next Window Plz (@NextWindowPlz_) July 25, 2016Read More →

The Whopper is Burger King‘s signature hamburger; it has stood at the forefront of the brand for the longest of times. I decided to try out this mascot burger to see if was worth a bite, or better left as a last resort. I’d like to make it very clear that I didn’t order the standard Whopper hamburger, but rather added a slice of cheese to the ‘sandwich.’ The Whopper consists of a “flame grilled” beef patty, sliced tomatoes, sliced onions, lettuce, mayonnaise, Heinz tomato sauce, and gherkins in a lightly toasted sesame seed bun. It is wrapped in a bit of grease proof paper toRead More →

Japan’s McDonalds restaurants are becoming PokéStops and Gyms for Pokémon Go players. This new collaboration marks the game’s first official sponsorship. The deal allows players to collect items and battle against peers at McDonalds’ 2 900 restaurants across the country. The announcement triggered a spike in shares in the Japanese unit of McDonalds, despite the fact that the game had not even been released in Japan when this announcement was made. According to the Wall Street Journal, this forms part of a wider “speculative frenzy”  over companies that will possibly profit through the location-based game that has recently taken the world by storm. The game,Read More →

Steers is holding a design competition for all of those graphic designers out there. It’s an interesting concept from a fast-food chain. Entrants stand a chance of winning R20 000 towards their studies, as well as an intern position at a “top South African advertising agency” based in Johannesburg, though it hasn’t been named. In order to enter, you’ll need to design a burger and include any of the food ingredients listed here — such as tomato or cream cheese. Entries can be designed using any media (think paint, marker, etc.), A2 in size, 300dpi (RGB), and have a maximum file size of 500MB. EntryRead More →

Fast food chain, Burger King, has opened its first Eastern Cape location today in Port Elizabeth. The restaurant is located at the Sasol service station on 92 Pickering Street. “We’re excited to continue growing the Burger King brand throughout South Africa. We know that PE locals have been longing to sink their teeth in to the famous 100% pure beef flame-grilled Whopper for some time, and we’re sure they will enjoy it as much as the rest of the country,” writes CEO of Grand Foods, Alan Keet (Show Me). “By expanding to yet another province, it allows us to continue growing our footprint and serveRead More →

Today’s picture comes from cyclonebill on Flickr. There’s something to be said about a sushi platter and that word is “yum(!)”. Today’s pic of the day is a tantalising selection of sushi treats. This mix includes salmon, prawns, and tuna combined in a variety of ways. They’re also accompanied by some pickled ginger and wasabi. Now if only we were having sushi for lunch.Read More →

With Winter hitting South Africa in a hard way, restaurant chain Mugg & Bean is introducing a range of ‘smokey flavour’ items to their menu. The new menu items include Chipotle Rump, Koren Rump, and Honey & Ginger Wings. “The new additions will see use of smoked paprika, chipotle and other smoky sauces,” says Marketing Executive for Mugg & Bean, Lee-Ann Cullingworth, in a press release to Next Window Plz. “Our new-product development team is constantly adapting our menu to the latest trends while ensuring our food is always generous, made-from-scratch and authentic,” she goes on to say. These means will include side-salads to complimentRead More →

Fast-food chain, Romans Pizza, has tweeted asking if customers want gluten-free pizzas. This will allow the chain to cater to a wider-range of consumers. Gluten-free products have seen a boom over the last few years, whether consumers have a gluten allergy, Celiac disease, or are simply adopting the lifestyle. Romans offers a two-for-one pricing system for their pizzas where customers pay for the most expensive one. Their pepperoni and seafood are my favourites, but it’s not often possible to get them, due to my fiance having a gluten allergy. If the chain starts selling gluten-free bases (even for an additional price), then everyone wins. WantRead More →
