Though the chocolate bar has been a success in the US and UK, Snickers hasn’t quite picked up as much popularity in South Africa. I’ll admit that it’s never been amongst my favourite chocolates, either. However, when I saw a white chocolate version on my local Spar, I had to pick it up. After all, I’m a sucker for anything with white chocolate.
What is Snickers and why should I care?
Internationally, Snickers is a product of the Mars company, which was founded in 1911 in New Jersey in the US. Does the name sound familiar? They own the Mars bar, along with Twix, Skittles, and even Pedigree pet food.
A standard Snickers bar consists of soft nougat and caramel (not Nestle caramel) centre with roasted peanuts, all topped off with a milk chocolate coating. It’s quite a sweet chocolate that leaves a pleasant nougat and peanuts aftertaste.
The While Limited Edition is identical to the standard bar but swaps out milk chocolate for white chocolate. It’s no new-chocolate-revelation – I mean, what else would it be, really?
Is it worth trying?
Yes, yes it is. The nougat, nuts and caramel mix in a delicious way. Afterwards, the white chocolate tops off the experience with a nice soft taste and isn’t overly sweet. It’s why I prefer it to the milk chocolate version. I’m happy with the mixture as I find certain chocolate (I’m looking at you, 5 Star) are far too sweet and make my eyes cross – as the expression goes. If you’re looking for a slab of Snickers, unfortunately, it’s only sold in the 45g size.
You should be however to pick up the Snickers White Limited Edition at your local Spar. So far, I haven’t seen it at any other store.
